They hand in hand, with wandering steps and slow,
Through Eden took their solitary way.
–John Milton, Paradise Lost

This is the last sermon regarding gender I gave in Greenwich Village. Events in 2013, made the treatment of women a timely topic. President Obama had just introduced, a few months before, several initiatives to try to address human trafficking in America (not in some faraway land, but in America!). The Bible’s story in Judges 19 asks us, how do you gauge a society? And its answer? Look at how women are actually treated in your midst.

With four different data sets, I then make the case that, despite the greater opportunities for upper class women in society, our situation is not good.
The quality of this recording is not terrific, but definitely an important topic to think through. I hope this helps…
May He Who voluntarily gave His body to the mob be your salvation.
