The Gift of Intergendered Intimacy

“For married love between man and woman is bigger than oaths, guarded by right of nature.”

“From the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’”

–Jesus of Nazareth, in The Gospel of Mark

Yet:

 

I sought, in this message on Ephesians 5:22-33 in 2015, to show a solid path forward to troubled marriages, by giving the Bible’s method to produce emotional intimacy in relationship. And the heart of that method is, guess what? —gender dynamics!

 

In this accompanying painting, Isaac and Rebecca, aka, The Jewish Bride, Rembrandt veered from the conventional by representing the pair (a contemporary couple) in an intimate and private moment.

 

The passage shows that God wants this for us, and how to get there.
