Gender Resurges in the Adirondacks

The region of upstate New York is well-known for allegedly housing a population of Bigfoot (or, as originally named by the natives, GouGou, long before Europeans arrived). I say, “allegedly,” because no one has ever claimed to have seen a credible Mrs. Bigfoot which, if you think about it, would be necessary if there were any continuous, Sasquatchian presence to be seen.

But, though as I say, there isn’t convincing evidence to me of giant hairy binary, there is a resurgence of actual human genderality in the North Country, while much of the rest of our country is losing it.

Yes, it is true. The next Gift of Gender Seminar is happening! Next week-end, September 27-29, in Queensbury, New York,  gateway to the Adirondack Mountains, we will be planting seeds in the soil of listening hearts to grow a theology of gender. Through the sponsorship of Redeemer Reformed Presbyterian Church, and the vision of Pastor Ed Suffern, I will be giving the seminar once again for their Autumn Conference.

I have now offered the seminar in whole or in part dozens of times since it first took shape nine years ago and, as you might expect from much explaining and response, it is presently considerably refined. But I have not done it in this area before, so I am glad for the chance to sow a few more seeds in the Fall’s most stunning place to be.

Mary K. and I will be camping in a wilderness area of the gorgeous mountains this week before the conference, just to be sure ourselves that no Bigfoots are there, and maybe no remaining wolverines, before we descend upon Queensbury, just south of Lake of George, to do the deed and, we hope and pray, meet the need.

See you there?
